research in hair disorders

London in the UK. This has enhanced new research projects such as the genetics of frontal fibrosing alopecia (awaiting publication), the current frequency of the different subtypes of alopecia in daily practice (awaiting publication), the role of microbiome in folliculitis decalvans and alopecia areata (ongoing), etc. This latter project has recently received one of the EADV PPRC grants. European research network Taking into account the increasing interest in hair research in Europe and the high level of some European hair research groups, we would strongly support the creation of a European research network in hair disorders. This would improve the multidisciplinary collaboration between centres. In fact, we are currently working on this idea in the European Hair Research Society (presided by Dr Bianca M Piraccini from Bologna, Italy). Hopefully, in a few years this European network could be up and running. We are sure that this would help to maintain the research excellence of the European dermatologists working on hair disorders. Key events in 2019 Next year, two indispensable events related to hair research will be held in Spain: the World Congress for Hair Research (24-27 April 2019 in Sitges), and the EADV Congress (9-13 October 2019 in Madrid). We encourage all dermatologists interested in hair research to attend these meetings. These will be not only excellent meeting points to share the latest developments, but also a perfect scenario to advance in the creation of

this European research network in hair disorders. In conclusion, the European research groups in hair disorders have achieved, in my opinion, world leadership in many fields - cicatricial alopecias, trichoscopy, genetics, etc - and this is probably just the beginning, as there are interesting ongoing projects that will be concluded in the next two-to-three years. We believe that the creation of a European research network in hair disorders will ease the collaboration between centres. l Sergio Vañó Galván MD PhD Dermatologist, Head of Trichology Unit & Clinical Research Co-ordinator, Hospital Ramon y Cajal, Madrid, Spain.
