ANNUAL REPORT 2019
Message from the Presidents CarlePaul and Alexander Stratigos
Advancing care to improve the lives of patients with skin diseases is at the heart of our efforts as EADV members. This vision is the motivating force behind our work to support dermatologists, scientists and nurses to change the lives of patients. With close to 8,000 members, the EADV continues to achieve sustained growth in membership. The sense of belonging to one big community has been expressed by so many colleagues attending our congresses, courses and other initiatives. We are energised by this positive feedback. The year 2019 has been a very rewarding year for the EADV. The Madrid congress attracted close to 13,000 participants , and we are very grateful to the Spanish association of dermatologists who contributed to make the congress a success. The Journal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology has benefited from a new format and an expanded editorial board under the leadership of Prof. Johannes Ring; 2019 saw an impact factor of 5.1 making it one of the top 6 general dermatology scientific journals. We have launched the EADV e-learning platform to provide expert dermatology training beyond congresses and courses to dermatologists worldwide. Our intention is to expand the e-learning training opportunities in 2020 and beyond to address the needs of our community. Helping the professional
The EADV is the leading community to further the knowledge of health professionals and advocates in the field of dermatology and venereology. Vision
Mission
We are dedicated to advancing patient care, education and research by providing a unique platform to bring people together and share ideas.

The medium-term objectives of the EADV are focused on securing efficient policies that will support the practice of dermatologists/venereologists, provide the best possible care to their patients, and increase public awareness of the main risks and challenges in dermatology healthcare. As such, we are actively involved in the European Cancer Plan with an emphasis on prevention, raising awareness for example of occupational skin cancer, and also on important public health matters such as the expansion of HPV vaccination programmes. With the support of the Communication Committee (chaired by Prof. Marie- Aleth Richard), the EADV is currently working to launch a general population survey in different European countries: • to identify dermatological key issues and the priorities in skin diseases in the different European countries; • to show the heterogeneity on health care systems in Europe and budgetary constraints; • to understand the public perception of dermatology practice. With its broad membership and educational and scientific involvement, the EADV is shaping a strategy aimed at engaging public authorities and key decision makers to establish partnerships with stakeholders, NGOs and patient/nurse organisations. This engagement is focused on securing funding or other means of support for
skin health at all levels (e.g. EU, national health systems, research etc.), and to reinforce relationships and synergies with national societies. The EADV leadership is committed to continuing to serve you at the best of our abilities. We will work together to ensure that we, as physicians, researchers, nurses, educators, EADV employees and investors, strive to establish a better world for patients with skin diseases. Warm Regards,
and personal development of young colleagues is an important mission of the EADV. This mission is supported by the various fellowships that will be expanded further in 2020 and by the opportunity to fund research through the Project Proposal Review Committee. To support personal development and to promote the personal growth of young colleagues we have launched the Leadership Development Initiative . This dedicated programme, which will be repeated annually, included 30 European dermatologists who aspire to become charismatic leaders. The applicants are currently undergoing a 6-month training course to attain a certification in emotional intelligence leadership. Emotional intelligence skills are trained capacities that have proven to be the key elements that distinguish successful leaders. These skills are important for patient care and effective teamwork. EADV's success are a direct result of excellent teamwork and we are extremely grateful to the outstanding achievements by the EADV team under the leadership of our new CEO Martine de Sutter. The expertise and dedication of her team should be acknowledged and commended. In a rapidly changing healthcare environment in Europe, the EADV is leading the public and scientific discourse in dermatology and venereology at a European level, keeping it high on the political agenda and visible to the public. So, what are our strategic objectives for 2020 ?

Nurse Association Working Group
“ Last year we reached an important milestone by having a full- day nurse programme at the EADV Congress. In the first Nurse Day we facilitated a programme that combined lectures and workshops bringing together dermatologists and nurses. The NAWG also ventured to create and implement a first Nurse Fostering Course, scheduled for 2020. All these new experiences and opportunities inspire and energise me. Bringing in new ideas from conferences and interprofessional networking boosts teamwork; meeting with like-minded colleagues empowers one to face daily challenges with a renewed vision. ”

Finances
2019
In 2019, the EADV’s finances have strengthened thanks to the success of the 28 th EADV Congress in Madrid, increases in the number of members, and royalties from the JEADV, which is published under the full responsibility of the Academy. Compared to 2018, this year’s revenue increased by 1% and expenses decreased by 6%. Congress organisation remained the major source of income and generates over 85% of the total Academy revenue. Year after year congress income has been increasing, demonstrating the interest generated by the event in the dermatology community. Moreover, due to a large number of paying participants, the Congress’s income is sufficient to cover the cost of the Congress organisation, even without the support of sponsors and the leasing of exhibitor space. The measures implemented to manage costs have contributed to improving financial performance and the continuance of the dedication of funds to reach the EADV’s goals. The Academy employs 37 workers between the Lugano and Brussels offices; to maintain this organisation a fixed amount of at least 4 million Euros is necessary. Extra income is primarily spent on activities: dermatology courses, various scientific projects, fellowships, and many other undertakings like the European Survey for the burden of skin diseases, which is dedicated to education, health policy and patient care. Financially, the Academy remains solvent and liquid: about 95% of assets are represented by cash and investments. To protect assets from the uncertainty of the financial market, the EADV has implemented a conservative approach: funds are spread over several banks, and financial products are selected with the goal to preserve the capital invested. These positive financial results have made the Academy financially strong, able to support all its activities from
its own sources, and ready to face the challenges that the future has in store for us. You will find below the income statement and the balance sheet as of 31 December 2019.
