Finances In its 30 years of existence, the EADV has reached a solid financial position. The basis of the income of the Academy is the annual congress organized every autumn. Due to a large number of paying participants, the congress’s income is sufficient to cover the costs of the congress , even without the support of the sponsors and leasing spaces to exhibitors. In terms of our office, in the last decade, the organization has grown from a small group of people to a team of nearly 40 employees divided in two offices in Lugano and Brussels. To maintain this organization, a fixed amount of €-4 million is necessary. In addition, the Academy spends most of its extra income on educational activities like courses and scientific Conservative budgeting has proven to contribute to the financial success of the Academy. Savings are divided under different banks and type of savings; all with a very low volatility. With the high solvability the Academy has insured themselves for difficult times. As public and governmental opinions are slowly changing regarding restrictions on cooperation between nonprofit medical organizations such as the EADV and commercial partners, the Academy is financially prepared to overcome these possible changes and adapt their strategy accordingly. In conclusion the EADV has a conservative, but successful, financial strategy and position allowing it to finance all their activities from their own sources. Spending is dedicated to education in dermatology . projects. Moreover, a journal, the JEADV , is published under the full responsibility of the EADV. “ I was impressed by the multiple possibilities the EADV Congress offered. I tried to attend especially sessions with uncommon diseases, which are not often found on North Africa. I enjoyed the social events very much including the opening and, even more, the scholarship ceremony, where I had the opportunity to meet and talk to high class dermatologists from all over the world. I met colleagues from the U. S, Israel and Germany, and had
contact with other scholarship winners (John Stratigos Memorial) from Morocco and Tunisia, which was very inspiring ”
