® Carlsbad, also known as Karlovy Vary, the Bohemian historic spa town, welcomed almost 1700 participants from 74 countries to the 8 th EADV Spring Symposium. The opening ceremony began with an innovative performance of the Czech and Slovak countryside and historical landmarks. Participants were welcomed by the Symposium Chairman, Prof Petr Arenberger; the President of the Slovak Dermatovenereological Society, Dr Dušan Buchvald; and the EADV President, Prof Frank Powell. The days that followed were packed with a very intense and highly praised scientific programme including live operations. The high stan- dard was echoed in the various activities in the inspiring atmosphere of one of the most beautiful spa resorts in the world. In their leisure hours, participants had the opportunity to visit this historic place and see many other local attractions, including the famous Moser glassworks. The President’s Dinner took place inside the magnificent Pupp Grand Hotel. The meeting ended with the traditional handing over of the EADV flag to Prof Giampiero Girolomoni who would be hosting the 9 th EADV Spring Symposium.
