® The 4 th EADV Spring Symposium in Lapland was a great success. It was the biggest medical meeting in Finnish Lapland ever! Nearly 1000 delegates from 50 countries descended on the village of Saariselkä, which has a population of only 400 permanent inhabitants. In addition to all hotel beds and «kelo» log houses, even glass-roofed igloos were in use for accommodation. The Governor of Lapland, Hannele Pokka, and Sympoisum Chairman, Prof Raimo Suhonen, welcomed all participants, who had the oppor- tunity to meet the real and original Santa Claus, who kindly took a break from his spring holiday just to meet EADV! The scientific content was high with outstanding speakers. The sym- posium included a free cryosurgery course for European young der- matologists. All the invited international cryosurgeons were happy to join the course, and the «Grand Old Cryosurgeon» Emanuel G Kuflik from the USA, also presented a plenary lecture. During our midwinter Symposium, Lapland was the warmest region of Finland with sunshine and snow-covered trees – beautiful surroun- dings for the as-important, free-time content of the event: rides with snow mobiles, husky and reindeer sledges. Surprisingly, however, the toboggan slide down Kaunispää hill was the most popular free-time activity! Many symposium delegates took the time afterwards to travel to the Arctic Sea in Norway to fish and enjoy king crabs.
