® The first EADV Spring Symposium opened its doors in Valletta, Malta - and more specifically at St John’s Cathedral where the famous Caravaggio painting “The beheading of St John” is displayed - in February 2003. After a magnificent choral and organ concert, the EADV group was escorted for a short walk from the Cathedral to the President’s Palace by soldiers in medieval costumes. The just over 900 participants from 55 countries were welcomed by EADV President Jean-Hilaire Saurat and the Symposium Chairman Joe Pace. The day prior to the start of the academic programme, a day-long his- tory session was organised dedicated to the history of medicine in Malta. The scientific programme included a variety of original innova- tive sessions which were all very well attended and appreciated. EACCME (European Accreditation Council for CME) as well as AAD (American Academy of Dermatology) accreditation of 198 hours were received for this first-time EADV spring event.
