® The 17 th EADV Congress at the Palais des Congrès in Paris broke new attendance records, welcoming about 11,000 participants from 116 countries. They came together and shared a powerful scientific programme that was stimulating and multi-dimensional, put together by a superb team: Pascal Joly, Congress President; Oliver Chosidow, Vice-President; Jacques Houset, Secretary General; and Bernard Cribier, Chairman of the Scientific Committee. The programme started with an entire day dedicated to the sub-spe- cialty meetings where attendance was very significant. In the evening, the official opening ceremony was sparkling, rhythmic and chic, in line with the Congress theme “Beyond fashion” - a music and dance show that took the audience on a memorable journey through the suc- ceeding decades of the 20 th century until the present day. After wel- come remarks by Prof Joly and outgoing EADV President Prof Alberto Giannetti, three honorary congress presidents - Prof Philippe Lauret, Prof Jean-Paul Ortonne and Prof Jean-Hilaire Saurat - were honoured. Attendees then enjoyed a fantastic audiovisual retrospective of events and trends in the recent history of Dermatology that certainly helped everybody remember some special and intense moments of their life. Over the next three days, the meeting rooms were packed and included different formats ranging from the traditional (plenary and ‘what’s new?’ lectures, courses and lunches with experts, symposia, workshops, forums, free communications) to some very innovative structures. On Friday evening, the Congress Gala Dinner was held at the Arts Forains Museum where attendees could enjoy an evening of networ- king, play and dance among authentic fairground attractions (inclu- ding carousels and a Ferris wheel) dating from the beginning of the 20 th century.
