® The 21 st World Congress of Dermatology in Buenos Aires convened in the autumn of 2007, just before the 16 th EADV Congress, which for the first (and last) time was organised in May in Vienna as the only major EADV event for 2007. The motto was “European Dermatology and Venereology: Strong Past - Stronger Future” - describing perfectly Vienna’s close ties with the history of Dermatology and Venereology, but nonetheless evolving with its extensive exchange of knowledge and research on a pan-Euro- pean level, necessary in order to advance and strengthen our specialty in the future. Participants were warmly welcomed to the congress venue, the Austrian Centre Vienna, by the Congress President, Prof Erwin Tschachler; President of the Austrian Society of Dermatology, Prof Hubert Pehamberger; and the EADV President, Prof Alberto Giannetti. The opening ceremony was followed by a magnificent concert by the Gyor Philharmonic Orchestra whose renditions of compositions by Joseph and Johann Strauss andWAMozart earned continuous applause. The scientific programme was of a very high standard. In addition to the combined efforts of Erwin Tschachler and Prof Klaus Wolff (Honorary Congress President), Prof Herbert Hönigsmann (Secretary General), Prof Werner Aberer (Chairman of the Local Scientific Committee) and the Local Organising Committee, the contribution of the EADV Scientific Programming Committee, (SPC) which had been recently introduced and was chaired by Prof Thomas Luger, proved to be of enormous importance and help. The scientific lectures were deli- vered by experts of the highest reputation and the participants (over 7500 registered) were exposed to a wide variety of updated informa- tion of the most recent diagnostic and therapeutic developments. The President’s Dinner took place in the magnificent Palais Ferstel where attendees enjoyed a special Viennese evening in a warm and intimate atmosphere.
