® “FromHippocrates toModern Dermatology”; this motto was an ins- piration acquired from the historical background of Kos, an island near Rhodes, renowned worldwide as the birthplace of Hippocrates, the father of medicine (460 BC). The Rhodes Convention Centre, located on the majestic Ixia Beach, was the venue for the 15 th EADV Congress. Prof Andreas Katsambas, the Congress President, together with Dimitrios Rigopoulos, SecretaryGeneral, Dimitrios Ioannides, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, and other Greek colleagues of the local organising committee made every effort to organise a very suc- cessful event. More than 7200 participants from 87 countries worldwide arrived on the island by air or by sea and had the opportunity to enjoy a scientific programme rich in all areas of our specialty spectrum in its fascinating and sometimes interdisciplinary character. The opening ceremony was a moment from ancient history as it was held at the ancient stadium of Diagoras where outstanding dancers performed to the rhythm of Greek music and during the reception which followed in the surrounding olive groves. Given the location of the 15 th EADV Congress, participants had the unique opportunity to take pleasant boat trips to other nearby islands in the Dodecanese such as Kos, where they visited the sanctuary of Asklepion, the first hospital and school of medicine in ancient Greece. There, the visitors were able to take part in a ceremony and take the Hippocratic Oath; a symbolic moment for any medical scientist. On the Friday (6 October), the municipality of Rhodes welcomed eve- ryone to a fantastic evening at the Town Hall, on the seafront and under the magical moonlight. This was the Gala night which all who attended enjoyed not only for the fine Greek cuisine but the dancing afterwards to the sounds of Greek bouzouki while learning the syrtaki steps. During the gala evening, Enno Christophers (Germany) received a Scientific Achievement Award, while Constantin Orfanos (Germany) and Hugh Zachariae (Denmark) were given Clinical Care Awards, and Giorgi Landi (Italy) and Michael Waugh (UK) received Distinguished Service Awards. The unforgettable 15 th Congress closed with the traditional passing of the EADV flag to next Congress President, Erwin Tschachler (Vienna) by the new EADV President Alberto Giannetti and Johannes Ring, who ended his presidential term of office at the 15 th Congress.
