® “Skin and Environment – Perception and Protection” was the motto of the 10 th EADV Congress that was seen as another step in the development of our Academy. The Munich event broke all records with more participants than ever before. Despite the tragic events of 9/11 in New York, people were not discouraged from travelling to Munich. Only 300 people cancelled bringing the final attendance to nearly 6000 delegates from over 100 countries across all continents. Prof Johannes Ring, Congress President, and Prof Otto Braun-Falco, Honorary President, with enormous help fromProf Enno Christophers, who was Chairman of the Local Scientific Committee, Prof Gerd Plewig, Director of the local CME (Continuous Medical Education) Committee, and from the other members of the Local Organising Committee, prepared a complete programme, which started every morning with clinical cases as a wake-up session, stressing the impor- tance of excellence in clinical practice. Due to the growing complexity of our specialty in the last decades, 19 sub-specialty and sister societies presented their latest developments in combined symposia. The venue was the International Congress Centre of Munich (ICM) where the opening ceremony also took place. The delegates and spouses never forgot the “Bavarian Evening” at the famous brewery and beerhall, the Löwenbräukeller, where Prof Ring and the Biederstein Allergy Crew presented an unforgettable melo- drama “The Odyssey of Allergy” (Johannes was Poseidon). The atmosphere of the famous Bavarian Gemütlichkeit (warmth and friendliness) was everywhere in the beerhall and it was indeed a memorable evening.
