® Dublin, capital of the fabled ‘Emerald Isle’, hosted the 6 th EADV Congress in 1997. The venue was the Belfield campus of University College Dublin just outside the city centre overlooking the campus lake. Derek Freedman, the Congress President, with the invaluable support of his Irish colleagues, Sarah Rogers, Frank Powell, Brigitte O’Connell, Desmond Burrows and Gillian Murphy, made every effort and delivered a very successful congress. Many participants were accommodated at the campus in small but very nice and comfortable student rooms. They enormously enjoyed the friendly and warm atmosphere that this beautiful place offered. The scientific programme was very rich and diverse, thematically covering every aspect of our dermato-venereology discipline. More than 3500 participants from around the world attended the congress and experienced the wonderful friendliness of Dublin, the vibrant city of culture, rich in history and heritage…... and of course its world-famous beer Guinness! The Gala evening took place at the historic Trinity College which brought together the character and charm of Ireland’s oldest univer- sity, with its finest Irish cuisine and the warm hospitality of the local organisers, making it a memorable event. Financially, the event, although on very a tight budget, generated a significant benefit for the Academy, thus proving quite successful.
