® The preparations for the 4 th EADV Congress in Brussels were well under way, when the President of the Congress, Dr Michel Delune, let it be known that he would be stepping down from the presidency and moving to the United States. The new Congress President, Prof Diane Roseeuw, together with the Chairman of the Scientific Committee, Jacques Delescluse and with assistance from Prof Lachapelle and Prof Degreef, created a very attractive scientific programme. A positive response was received with more than 3000 active parti- cipants from 68 countries, thus fullfiling its aim, which was to attract dermatologists, venereologists and scientists from all over the world. The scientific programme included 100 scientific sessions, numerous posters and 11 satellite symposia. During the plenary sessions, simul- taneous translation was provided in French, German and Flemish, the three linguistic communities coexisting in Belgium. The opening ceremony was held in the Concert Hall of the Palais des Beaux-Arts and the National Orchestra of Belgium performed a concert. The gala dinner took place in the famous Autoworld Museum where participants also admired vintage cars.
