Andreas Katsambas became involved with EADV early on and served as Secretary General for the 2 nd EADV Congress in Athens, later becoming Secretary General of EADV between 1993–2000 before assuming the Presidency from 2008–2010. From 2000–2006 he served as Chairman of the Honours and Awards Committee and from 2014–2017 as Chairman of the Nomination and Election Monitoring Committee. Since completing his term of office, Andreas Katsambas continues to be active in research and clinical dermatology and is Head of the Dermatology Clinic, Hygeia Hospital in Athens. Andreas Katsambas is an honorary member of many countries’ dermatological societies and has been an active Editorial Board Member of many dermatology journals.
Frank Conor Powell
15 th EADV President: 2010–2012
s Frank Powell was born in 1950 in Dublin, Ireland. He graduated in Medicine from University College Dublin in 1975 and completed his medical training in Dublin in 1980. From 1980–1984 he was a Resident in Dermatology at the Mayo Clinic, USA and completed his American Boards in Dermatology in 1983. Frank Powell returned to Dublin in 1985 to become Consultant Dermatologist at the Mater Private Hospital and Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at University College Dublin. He has had a number of clinical and research interests including intra–oral lesions, pyoderma gangre- nosum and rosacea. More recently his research has focused on the immune interaction between Demodex mites and human host resident cell lines (sebocytes and keratinocytes). Frank Powell played an important and influential role in the development of the Academy. He was largely instrumental in modifying the EADV Statutes in the late 1990s and in initiating the change from Luxembourg law to that of Lugano, Switzerland. He was Secretary General of EADV from 2000– 2004, President from 2010–2012 and later Chairman of the Honours and Awards Committee and the Nomination and Election Monitoring Committee. He was a key participant in the initiation of the spring symposia meetings and the designation criteria for congress venues suitable to hold EADV Congresses. Frank Powell won the O’Leary Award for Outstanding Resident of the Mayo Clinic in 1983 and was elected an Honorary Member of the American Dermatological Association in 2008.
