Alberto Giannetti was Professor and Chairman of the Department of Dermatology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia from 1986–2010. Between 1994–2000 he was Scientific Director of the Institute of Hospitalisation and Scientific Care at the Immaculate IDI Dermopathic Institute and the San Gallicano Dermatological Institutes, Rome. His main research interests have focused on the biochemistry of connective tissue in ageing, the study of dendritic cells in the immune response and epidermal stem cells. His basic clinical and pharmaco- logical research have involved the study of cutaneous autoimmune diseases including atopic eczema and psoriasis. Alberto Giannetti has lectured and published widely and in 2013 he published the Textbook of Dermatology and Sexually Transmitted Diseases . Between 1984–1985 he was President of the European Society for Dermatological Research (ESDR) and of the European Forum (2004–2005). Between 2003– 2007 he was President of the Italian Society of Dermatology (SIDeMaST). During his term of office as President of EADV (2006–2008), Alberto Giannetti oversaw the move of the main EADV office from Brussels to Lugano; promoted the closer involvement of the European national societies with EADV and directed an annual refresher course (Euroderm for Excellence) for recent dermato-venereologic graduates. Alberto Giannetti has received awards for excellence from ESDR (1996), EDF (2004), EADV (2008) and the International League for Dermatological Societies (ILDS, 2011).

s Andreas Katsambas was born in February 1944 in Patras, Greece. After graduating in Medicine from the University of Athens, he completed his residency in dermato-venereology there in 1974. Afterwards he spent one year as a postgraduate Fellow in Dermatology (1974–1975) working with Prof Ian Magnus on Photobiology at the St John’s Institute of Dermatology in London. Andreas Katsambas served as a Professor and Chairman of the Dermatology Department at the University of Athens between 1991–2011. He built up a large and successful department and deve- loped special interests in acne, photo-dermatology and pigmentary disorders and produced special textbooks on dermatological treatments. He was a long-time General Secretary of the Hellenic Society of Dermatology and Venereology before serving as its President between 2003–2008. In 2008 he served as President of the European Society for Cosmetic and Aesthetic Dermatology (ESCAD) and between 2004–2009 was President of the Euromelanoma campaign. Between 1997 and 2010 he was a Board member of the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) and served as Chairman of the ILDS Awards Committee.
